Here we have included websites that we believe are of particular relevance to schools seeking information on child and adolescent trauma, loss and grief. We have included organisations that are primarily child and adolescent-focused or focused on school mental health. While we have looked at the sites and the information and resources they provide, we are unable to endorse the content of them.

This site contains a lot of information relevant to mental health in schools, including reports, links and resources.

Australian Early Childhood Foundation

 This organisation specifically focuses on children from birth to 8 years. The site has resources and information about grief, loss and trauma for children.

Australian Psychological Society (APS)
Psychologists in Schools Resources

This site is available to those registered with the APS as a psychologist working in schools.

Bullying No Way

A website created by Australia's educational communities that contains nationwide resources on state and territory approaches to minimising bullying, harassment and violence in schools.

Emergency Management Australia, Attorney Generals Department

A comprehensive resource on emergency management for Australian students and teachers, from late primary school to late secondary school.

Good Grief & Seasons for Growth

Good Grief & Seasons for Growth provides training to schools for supporting children experiencing loss and grief.  One training program particularly focuses on resilience building in children and adolescents.

Hunter Institute of Mental Health

The Hunter Institute provides a list of publications and resources on research into mental health. Its publications list contains many useful references to mental health research that has taken place in schools.

KidsMatter

KidsMatter is a national mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention initiative for primary schools. This website has information about the program as well as links to resources and an e-newsletter.

MindMatters

MindMatters is a national mental health initiative for secondary schools. This website provides information about the program as well as links to resources.

Principals Australia

The website of the Australian Principals Associations Professional Development Council. Established to provide support to Principals in their own professional development. Provides links to Kidsmatter and Mindmatters.

School-Link Initiative, NSW
NSW Institute of Psychiatry and NSW Dept of Education

This website provides information on the NSW School-Link Initiative, which links NSW schools with mental health services and support, as well as references and access to publications. The site also contains links to available School-Link training across NSW. 

Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC)

The national non government peak body in Australia representing the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families. This site contains links to information about children in childcare and education.

St Luke’s Innovative Resources

A site that has many resources available to purchase that may be used in classrooms. Resources include those designed for working with children who are experiencing grief and loss.

US national resource for schools to support planning and responding to crisis events and losses.

Federal Emergency Management Authority, US

Information for parents and teachers regarding disasters.

Kentucky Centre for School Safety, US

This website provides information regarding planning, training and management for crisis events in schools. Provides links to resources in many different areas, including bullying and classroom management.  

What’s the Plan Stan
Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management, NZ

What’s the Plan Stan is an initiative which aims to support teachers to develop their students' knowledge, skills and attitudes to respond to and prepare for an emergency.

National Association of School Psychologists, US

This website contains information, resources and publications that are available to download.

National Child Traumatic Stress Network, US

The aim of the Network is to raise the standard of care and improve access to services for traumatised children, their families and communities throughout the US. Information for parents and caregivers, info for educators, resources, books etc to order, knowledge bank, links to conferences and events. The website contains resources specifically designed for teachers and educators.

School Crisis Guide, US

Website developed by National Education Association and contains crisis guidelines for schools.

The Consortium on Trauma, Illness and Grief in Schools, US

An organisation that assists to develop, implement and maintain community and school-based support services in order to respond to trauma, violence, illness, grief and loss.

Winstons Wish, UK

An organisation in the UK that provides information and support regarding grief and loss in children. This website has a section dedicated to schools and teachers.
