Early childhood and school communities
Trauma, loss and grief experiences of children and youth are relevant to the all members of school communities – principals and teachers, counsellors and support workers, students and their families.
The network is working in partnership and consultation with key stakeholders in areas of early childhood and education, including Principals Australia, MindMatters, KidsMatter, Response Ability state education departments and other school- and child-care related services to identify and develop resources and linkages (e.g., Victorian Bushfires Support and Training for Affected Schools).
The network provides a professional resource for teacher educators, leaders, pre-service teachers and workers in school and childcare communities. It also provides a resource for parents and other caregivers as well as interested members of the community.
On the web pages for the Early Childhood and Schools Hub of ACATLGN, you will find resources that have been brought together by experts in this field to support schools and staff in working with children experiencing grief, loss and trauma (e.g., trauma and grief, bullying, suicide post-vention, natural disasters such as bushfires). Some of these resources are available to download in full from the internet, other resources have been provided as references to journal articles or books that can provide information and guidance.
In relation to trauma, loss and grief in the early childhood and schools context, the network aims to:
- develop, review and collate early childhood and school-specific resources and information in partnership with key groups
- provide and disseminate up-to-date and relevant information for people working in schools and childcare contexts
- facilitate and enhance networking and linkages between stakeholders from different backgrounds
- provide ongoing advice and access to expertise about related issues.
Please check these pages regularly. These resources are not exhaustive and we will continue to review and update them regularly. If there is a resource that you believe would be useful to include on the following pages, please contact us.
Your input is important. We welcome input about concerns school communities might face in their work with children and their families. Please contact us to provide any feedback or suggestions for additional information you might find useful.
